Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R - 6th) continues a 16-year tradition this week in Harrisonburg.

Goodlatte donates his yearly Congressional pay raise to various non-profit organizations. On Monday, the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County received $1,000 from Goodlatte.

The BBBS group is the largest in Virginia, making 703 youth-mentor matches this year. More than 80 percent of the kids served live at or below the poverty level.

"This organization does a great job helping to prevent gang activity in this area by getting young people who might otherwise be at risk involved with a responsible adult who will help them take advantage of different opportunities and do things together," says Goodlatte.

Goodlatte split his pay raise between Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Lynchburg's Holy Cross School and the Child Health Investment Partnership in the Roanoke Valley.
