Congressman Goodlatte questions direction under Obama administration

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu were in Pittsylvania County to hear from Virginia's rural areas Saturday.

Sixth District Congressman Bob Goodlatte questions whether the priorities of the Obama administration are in sync with Southwest Virginia.

The Republican says he hopes Vilsak and Chu actually came to Blairs to listen.  Goodlatte fears administration proposals will ultimately bring higher taxes, and more government regulation to rural America.

"I think that these massive new spending programs that are driving up the debt that we're leaving for our children and grandchildren, as well as these very, very expensive programs that inject the federal government into people's lives is exactly not what people in rural America want," says Goodlatte.

Goodlatte says the President has failed to deliver on one of his campaign promises; that is a bipartisan conference on rural issues during the first 100 days of his administration.
