Historical Tourism


  • Congressman Goodlatte introduced House Resolution 1664 which would establish the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum at his birthplace in Staunton.  This legislation will create grants from the National Archives for the establishment of a Presidential Library to provide educational and interpretive services to honor the life of Woodrow Wilson.  
  • Congressman Goodlatte, along with Congressman Frank Wolf, introduced legislation to create the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District and Commission Act.  This law directs the Secretary of the Interior to protect, manage, and administer the Battlefields for the purposes of preserving and interpreting their natural, cultural, and historical resources and of providing for public understanding and appreciation of the Battlefields in such a manner as to perpetuate these qualities and values for future generations.
  • Congressman Goodlatte has also secured federal funding to help preserve and protect Civil War battlefield sites in the Shenandoah Valley.
  • Congressman Goodlatte introduced House Resolution 2942 which creates the Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area Act in Amherst County.
  • Congressman Goodlatte secured nearly $2.3 million to repair the scenic overlooks along the Skyline Drive.
